2017 Annual Banquet – April 1st – Mountain View Country Club

STATE COLLEGE, PA – The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold its Eighth Annual Membership Banquet on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Mountain View Country Club, 100 Elks Club Rd., Boalsburg, PA.  Doors will open at 5:30 PM with dinner at 6:30 PM.  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Mark Michelotti, Veterinarian at Centre Animal Hospital in State College.  He will talk about first aid for your hunting dog.

Last year’s banquet was a huge success. We increased attendance by 20%, and gave away 9 firearms, 3 all-expenses paid upland bird hunts, 5 wildlife prints, and over a hundred other raffle prizes including items from Pheasants Forever and local businesses. Our goal is to make 2017’s banquet better and give away more prizes. With your help we hope to part ways with at least 10 firearms, 3 upland bird hunts, a couple Yeti coolers, several wildlife prints, raffle items such as chainsaws, Orvis hunting chaps, hunting vests, hundreds of shotgun shells, dog supplies, adult beverages, gift cards for local businesses, prizes for ladies and kids, and much, much more.

With the funds raised from the previous banquet and help from our conservation partners last year, we restored 51 acres of upland nesting cover plus 15 acres of wetlands and over 3 miles of stream habitat. We also hosted a beginner and youth pheasant hunt, and a dog training seminar with instructor Lisa Price.

2016 Year End Summary

The Central Pennsylvania Chapter (855) collaborated with the Central Pennsylvania Habitat Forever Crew, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and private landowners on several projects this year.

Our work continued in Penns Valley on the Muddy Creek and Penns Creek riparian buffers by planting shrubs along the stream. We also did maintenance mowing on a 13-acre grassland in a park near Centre Hall, PA. Near State College, volunteers worked on establishing a pollinator plot by spraying invasive poison hemlock along Slab Cabin Run and planting an oats cover. The plot will be planted in a pollinator mix in 2017. We also worked at two local schools to establish pollinator plots. Wetlands were restored and enhanced on two plots in Penns Valley as well. The chapter provided the herbicide for the Pennsylvania Game Commission for approximately 20 acres to establish grassland habitat on State Game Lands 333 in Centre County.

The Fox Gap Rod and Gun Club hosted a Youth Pheasant Hunt with the Penn State Chapter of the Wildlife Society and our chapter – eight kids and eight college-age kids participated. The chapter also hosted a site tour at a stream, riparian, young forest and grassland restoration site at a farm on Penns Creek. Lunch was provided by Woodland Ag. This was held as part of the Pennsylvania State Meeting with chapters from PA and other PF guests on hand.
